A Letter to Myself

by Joyce

Happy seventy-fourth Birthday, Joyce.

Try to remember that people love you in their own way. It’s the only way they can.

It may be disappointing at times or feel disingenuous but it’s what they have to give.

Take what you get from those who love you. Wear the remnants of that love as a warm and tender cloak that embraces you. Allow it to seep into your mallow. So that as you age it gives you strength and power to forage on through life.

All the anticipation, expectations, wishing and fanaticizing about what love is to you is projection. That projection engages hope and yearning for something that may only be attainable through self- love. Through confidence and caring, take that self-love and wear it proudly. Share it with those all around you. Allow it to spread gracefully and with equanimity as you continue to walk your path on your journey of life.
